So we have a purple room. I don’t know what I was thinking. We must have been drinking when we chose this color. It’s a muted purple, I’ll give it that, but we must have sniffed a lot of paint fumes by the time we painted this room (it was the last of them) because…oi. It’s a great color on a 4×4 inch swatch, but covering an entire wall is shall we say MUCH. So I haven’t really decorated this room since we moved in. We used to have a nice comforter and matching shams and thow pillows in here, but they didn’t match the purple walls (they were red). But at least it was something on the bed. Then came along my husband’s bachelor party, and let’s just say the comforter didn’t withstand that night.
No I didn’t throw a whole bunch of crap on the bed to make it look bad- this is actually how the room has been looking because I didn’t know what to do with PURPLE! But this weekend was the last straw. I jumped on my Mac and typed in “How to decorate a purple room” and you know what came up? Paint it. I consulted my husband about this option and it was a firm no. And honestly, I didn’t want to repaint it either. At least all of our college furniture had the same light wood color, so that was a start. I hit up Google Images, searched for “elegant purple rooms” and found a few ideas that just might save our guests from having purple-themed nightmares in our guest room.
I found that when you’ve got to work with dark walls, it’s best to keep the bedding light. Next is curtains and the walls need some work, of course a photo collage is my solution. When I found the lamp I thought it might be a great way to draw attention to something other than the walls. All in all, I like the way the room turned out…well, it could be worse.
