I thought I’d share a little piece of tranquility on what is shaping up to be a very industrious Saturday. I won’t get your feathers ruffled with the details. Just a simple photo. Which you can find here on Etsy, if it so fancies you :)

My “Moo” Soundtrack

Life on the farm has been good the last couple of weeks, and I will say we never feel alone. It had crossed my mind that I was moving from a highly populated city to wide open spaces, but I can’t say I’ve felt stranded. At any given moment, whether I’m walking up to the barn where my car is parked to run errands, watching Bailey sprint from the chicken coop to the shop, or picking up debris left from the latest snow, I can always count on the sound of “mooooooo” to be there as my new soundtrack. Coasting Through Sunday

Today felt like a rare opportunity to do…nothing. The house was clean, no office work needed to be done, the dog was walked (thanks to my husband), had a nice lunch at Chipotle and sounds of the Packers football game will fill our living room for the rest of the evening. I felt a little uneasy today without any “urgent” matters to attend to, gifts to be purchased or chores to get done, but isn’t that just typical. Can’t we just let ourselves enjoy the days of nothing?

I think that because the dust has settled a bit on the future of our Florida home helps, which has been a hot topic these days. And I have the sneaking suspicion that their won’t be too many lazy days once we move north. I suppose I could worry myself about that minor detail of where we’re going to live in two months, but I’ve decided not to and instead take this day off from doing anything but coasting through Sunday.

Butterfly Free

While in Key West recently, we stopped into a butterfly exhibit and got to see and experience hundreds of butterflies fluttering and landing all around us. It was pretty amazing to see so many all in one place, each looking so rare and beautiful.

Black Yellow Butterfly

We learned that once certain types of butterflies get to their final stage of metamorphosis, (the pretty stage as I call it) some only live for a few weeks actually. It got me thinking about how they must spend their time knowing they literally have only days to live in such a beautiful state. What if it were the same for people? How would you spend your final weeks?

Would you spend your time worrying, or would you enjoy them freely? I’m no expert on what butterflies do with their spare time, but it doesn’t seem wasted that’s for sure. They carefully hop around from one leaf or person’s shoulder to the next. It seemed like each move they made was important, and it was a gentle reminder of how I hope to carry myself through life. Freely, gracefully, purposefully, and with care.

I dedicate this post to my grandmother, who loved many things such as flowers, just like the butterfly.

Turning a Corner

Bailey peeking

As you can see, my blog’s turning a corner along with the direction of my photography. I’ll still be posting as usual, sharing the same light-hearted stories, fine tuning my hobby and figuring out where it will all lead, and while doing so, Photo Salsa is moving on to simply: Kim Hopf Photography. Along with the name of my blog, I thought it might be fun to switch up my background with some of my favorite images, and then share a short blurb about them in the right column. You can check out the story behind this background image by looking to the right as well!

Other than the name and some new features I hope to add, its photo-blogging and silly-Bailey posts as usual. And then who knows, maybe they’ll be some Kim Hopf Photography business cards in my future.
